CHEM 1434 - General Chemistry I

Prerequisite(s): MATH 1023 Intermediate Algebra, MATH 1053 - Foundations of Quantitative Literacy , or MATH 1063 - Foundations of College Algebra  with a grade of "C" or better in the course or instructor permission.
This lecture-laboratory course covers the basic principles of inorganic chemistry. Topics covered include scientific measurements and conversions, atomic structure, the periodic table, ionic and molecular compounds, reaction types, stoichiometry, gas laws, thermochemistry, and an introduction to chemical bonding and molecular geometry. The laboratory portion of the course is designed to reinforce concepts from lecture as well as to introduce students to a variety of laboratory techniques. Offered in fall, spring, and summer ACTS Equivalent Course Number = CHEM1414  Note: This course assumes a solid working knowledge of algebra.
